Visiting Columbia University
It's the second day of the week, and the second college visit. 2 of 2!
This time in NYC at Columbia University. 🧠
Leadership, culture, values.
Topics I love, and the class was wonderfully interactive with loads of questions.
Questions are a powerful tool in all places and show that you are Smart with Humility - one of my favorite Rokt company values.
One of the questions:
Where should I look to find a job if I’m not exactly sure what I want to do?
Here’s my answer:
Start by looking at the size and speed of the company.
The younger the company—and the faster it’s growing year over year—the more you’ll be asked to do. Roles are fluid. Problems appear daily. Titles mean less, and action means everything.
That can feel chaotic, but it’s actually an incredible gift.
You’ll learn fast. You’ll try things you never imagined. You’ll figure out not just what you’re good at—but what excites you.
But here’s the key:
You’ve got to show up smart, with humility, and put your hand up. Not once. Again and again.
Put your hand up for the hard things. The messy things. The things that no one else wants.
Do that, and you’ll earn the great opportunities.
And even the not-so-great ones?
Still pure gold. Still fuel for your future decisions. Still helping you discover where you want to go next.
You don’t have to know your destination yet.
You just have to be brave enough to start moving.
